Torres del Paine: The Eighth Wonder

Just 2 hours from our cabins. Explore the iconic granite towers, glaciers, and trails of Chile's most spectacular national park.

**Torres del Paine** is the heart of Chilean Patagonia. From your cabin in Puerto Natales, you're just a couple of hours away from one of the most spectacular national parks on the planet.

The Parque Nacional Torres del Paine was declared a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 1978. Its 181,414 hectares harbor a unique ecosystem where the Patagonian steppe, southern forests, and ice fields converge.

Base Torres Viewpoint Without doubt, the most iconic hike. It's approximately 20 km round trip (8-10 hours total) with an 800-meter elevation gain. The reward: a direct view of the three granite towers reaching 2,500 masl. Pro tip: arrive before 6 AM to avoid crowds and capture the golden light.

The W Circuit For those with more days, the W Circuit (or the shortened "W" version) is a 5-7 day trek connecting the main points of the massif. You don't need to be a professional mountaineer, but you do need good physical condition and gear for wind and rain.

Grey Glacier Navigation A more contemplative alternative. From Grey Lake, you can take a boat that brings you close to the face of the homonymous glacier, an ice field of 270 km² that belongs to the Southern Patagonian Ice Field.

The Wind We can't talk about Torres del Paine without mentioning the wind. Down here it's not a rhetorical figure. Gusts of over 100 km/h are common, especially in the upper area of the viewpoint. It comes from the west without asking permission and literally stops you. Recommendation: bring layered clothing, make sure your jacket is quality windproof, and don't schedule anything with strict times.

Practical Recommendations - **Best season**: December to March (Southern summer), but January is the most crowded month. December and March are a good balance. - **Gear**: Trekking boots, windbreaker, hat, gloves, and enough layers for 4 seasons in a single day. - **Reservations**: Campsites and refugios fill months in advance. Plan ahead. - **Access**: From Puerto Natales, it's approximately 112 km by road. You can go by bus (2.5 hours) or rental car.
